Serbian Tennis star Novak Djokovic was selected as the 2012 Arthur Ashe Humanitarian of the Year for his role as a UNICEF ambassador and his contributions through the Novak Djokovic Foundation as well as other charitable projects.
Novak’s foundation has raised 1.4 million dollars for early childhood education. Novak also collaborated with his clothing sponsor UNIQLO to develop and launch ‘Clothes for Smiles’. The program, which aims to give children of all ages a chance for a better future, has established a $10 million fund that helps nurture the dreams of children worldwide.
“This award is even more special, receiving it for the first time. It means a lot, not just to me, but to the whole team of people that has been involved in the charity work within our Foundation. This will definitely serve as a great inspiration and motivation to all of us to do even a better job, helping kids who live in disadvantaged areas around the world. Unfortunately, not all of them have the opportunity to realize their dreams like we all have, playing here in front of you… Our responsibility is to give our best to enable them to have a better access to sport and everything they dream about. Thank you all for sharing this moment with me,â€
